I watched a video today that sickened me to the pits of my stomach. It showed a 4 year old boy being sexually molested by his 11 year old care giver. It was obvious it wasn’t the first time it was happening to the unfortunate preschooler as he thrust with mechanical accuracy seemingly unaware of the grave injustice done to him. I wondered where his parents were or how such an act could go unnoticed and I remembered this was Nigeria, a place where a parent’s primary responsibility was to put food on the table and pay school fees. Children in many homes were basically responsible for their own upbringing and at best the responsibility of molding the child’s attitude and setting an example for him to follow was left in the hands of hired helps or younger members of the family.
